Utah's movie summer: Four films made in the state play in theaters, as audiences start coming back

August 07, 2021 by Sean P. Means

Movie theaters started to welcome audiences this summer, after losing most of their box office last summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And for Utah audiences, it was a chance to see their home state on the big screen.

Four new movies that hit theaters in July and early August were filmed here. Two were local productions, the Latter-day Saint-themed wedding comedy “Once I Was Engaged” and the music drama “Even in Dreams.” Another is a movie-star vehicle, the drama “Joe Bell,” starring Mark Wahlberg. And one, the existential drama “Nine Days,” was an award winner at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

I talked to the makers of these movies, about what makes Utah a good place to film. Read the story here, at sltrib.com.
