Update: Zoomer makes a pronoun decision, the next step in the family's 'gender creative parenting' journey

July 04, 2021 by Sean P. Means

Back in November, I interviewed Utah sociologist Kyl Myers, who had recently published her book, “Raising Them” — which described her efforts to employ “gender creative parenting” on her child, Zoomer, so that the child was raised without ascribing a gender identity.

At the time, Myers told me that shortly after she finished writing the book, but before it was published, Zoomer had declared a decision regarding pronouns — but that Myers hadn’t decided how or when to make Zoomer’s decision public.

In May, over Instagram, Myers announced that Zoomer, now 5, identifies as a boy, with he/him pronouns.

This is the kind of gender reveal that makes sense: The person whose gender is being revealed makes the decision, and there are no explosives involved.

Read about Zoomer’s decision here at sltrib.com.
